Thank you for joining us again on TPN for our coverage of The Phoenix Insurance Charity Championship. I am your host, Lance Cannon. We had a lot of great matchups in the first round so lets get right to the action. Cody’s Friends just ganged up on City House of Plano. They will move on to the second round facing off against Doctors Without Borders. Really there is no limit to what they can do in this competition. 2nd Chance Farm absolutely trampled the competition; they’ll move on to the second round and face off against iKandy Foundation. Score of that game – 41-2. Rockwall Pets absolutely mauled Volunteer Center of North Texas. They’ll move on to the second round and hope to take a bite out of CMA Youth. Out West we had a great defensive battle as the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program put up an objection to Dare to Dream. Lets see if they can sustain this motion in the second round against Snowball Express. I tell you nobody – not one bracket had Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program moving on to the second round, but here they are. Let’s see if they can keep it up. Service Packs made a difference in their first round game, overcoming Make a Difference 8-2. They’ll move on to the next round where Guns N Hoses are waiting, hoping to extinguish their fire. We had a great local matchup as the OU Club of Dallas faced off against the Russ Martin Foundation and the OU Club proved that they do in fact know how to use computers in Oklahoma. They’ll move on to the next round and face off against Throwaway Ponies. We’ve got some great matchups coming up. Stay tuned as we’ll come back and explain the East side of the bracket on TPN.
The first round of the Phoenix Insurance 2015 Charity Championship is over, and it was a great group of games. We played four games a day for a week, and have now gotten down to the meat of the contest, and have started to see what charities are really contenders in this thing. For round two, we will do one game a day, starting on February 27.
Here is the schedule for the first games in the “March Madness” part of the 2015 Charity Championship.
As in the first round, the contests will be won by voting on our Facebook page – just click HERE to participate. Congratulations to everyone who made it through the first round, and good luck to everyone playing in these next games.
Is everyone ready for some bracketology? Thanks for joining us again on TPN. I am your resident bracketologist Lance Cannon. As you know we have The Phoenix Insurance Charity Championship going on and we have got 44 well deserving charities. One of them is going to win a donation – but one of you fans, somebody’s going to win some Rangers tickets, so I’m gonna tell you how. We need you to go post on The Phoenix Insurance Facebook page and there you will find this bracket. Print it up, fill it out, take a picture of it and post it in the comments in that pinned Facebook page. Get that post in there before Monday when we lock out any more brackets. Here is how the scoring is going to go. In the first round for each win that you get you are going to get one point. The second round is going to earn you two points, the third round is going to earn you four points. We’re gonna keep doubling the points; quarter final you get eight points wor wins, semi-finals you get tw-sixteen points for wins, and the finals you are going to get 32 points. We’re gonna add up all the points and the person who has the most points from the wins is going to win those four Rangers tickets. So go to The Phoenix Insurance Facebook page, find that pinned post, get those brackets posted by Monday, so you can wi – get a chance to win. For TPN, thanks for joining us, I’m Lance Cannon.
Being civic minded, we decided that this was they year that The Phoenix Insurance started “giving back” and donating some money to charity – but which one? There are so many deserving charities out there that we couldn’t decide where to make a donation. We decided to let our fans on Facebook decide where our donation goes. We were overwhelmed by the response, and had 44 501c charities nominated to be the recipient. Since our Facebook fans were so charitable, we decided to have a little fun with it, and the 2015 Phoenix Insurance Charity Championship was born.
The following 44 charities were nominated
Since we had so many nominations, we decided to do a challenge bracket on our Facebook page and see who gets the most votes. I put the list of nominees into a randomizer to match them up, then made made a bracket, as seen below.
Each match up will be posted on Facebook for a certain amount of time, with our fans voting for the victor – all the way until a champion is crowned. Think March Madness/Final Four but instead of basketball, it’s a popularity contest.
This contest isn’t just for charities though – if you participate by filling out the bracket and posting a picture of it HERE and you end up picking the winning charity, you can win four tickets to a Texas Rangers Baseball game. The greatest thing is that unlike March Madness, you can actually influence the outcome by making sure your friends all vote for your team – and guarantee yourself some sweet baseball this spring.
We will keep the bracketology portion of the game open until Monday, February 23. The first games will start that afternoon. In order to be entered for the Rangers Tickets, you MUST post your photo on the Facebook post HERE before Monday Feb 23.
Help us choos which one of these worthy charities we will donate to, and have a little fun in the process, will you?
